Userface design for antenna equipment - Bachelor thesis
Based on an existing TRIAX box, we designed a user interface (both software and remote control). This new UI was based on an older user than normal (to simplify). The menu contained a three step rule meaning that the user should be able to find any setting within just three clicks on the remote control, and more logic icons than those typically used on many of the settop boxes we tested.
The remote was design for the hand, meaning that it would have one position in the hand and from there the thump would be able to reach any button. We also looked at the hieraki of the buttons and placed them where it would make most sense in accordance to their function, as opposed to many remotes where the buttons typically are placed there because that's where they always have been.
Project Details
After observing the Danish market for electronic products, a fellow student and I decided that we wanted to work on antenna equipment for our thesis as Denmark was face to face with the analog switch-off. During our research we found that the user interface was very poor on the existing set-top-boxes on the market, and we wanted to make a product with focus on this, so we contacted the Danish antenna manufacturer, TRIAX A/S, as they already was represented on the market.
The project outcome was a mockup for a new GUI to the existing TRIAX box and an new remote control that was designed to lie perfect in the user's hand.
